KIDS' CLUB's mission is to provide a safe, warm, supportive environment for children. Daily activities provide enrichment and recreational opportunities. KIDS' CLUB employs qualified staff members who support the goals of social well-being and growth, meeting the developmental needs of the children.
Program Philosophy Children have the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities every day. Weather permitting, outdoor activities are offered on a daily basis. All activities will reflect the mission of the program and the developmental level of the children. These activities will meet the children’s needs for choice, recreation, enrichment, and understanding of diversity. Multicultural activities provide children with information that fosters tolerance, and more importantly, teaches acceptance of others. Plans for the day will include activities that promote physical, intellectual, emotional and social well-being; growth, and literacy. They will also include community service projects, math and science, and games that foster cooperation and conflict resolution. Activities are posted on the website and outside of each classroom. KIDS’ CLUB provides positive and consistent guidance to children based on their individual needs and development. Staff members at KIDS’ CLUB learn about all of the children and how they interact with each other. We gain understanding of each child through observation and interaction. Staff meet regularly and discuss the needs of children in the program to ensure consistency in care.
Our Story In June 1993, parents approached the Selectman and requested that the Town of Bedford administer the after school program. The Bedford Recreation Department School Age Child Care Program opened in September 1993, with the understanding that it be self-supporting through tuition fees. The Program was housed in two rooms located in the Town Center building and licensed through the Massachusetts Office for Children to accommodate up to fifty-two children in Kindergarten through Grade five. In 2002, KIDS' CLUB became one of the first programs in the nation to be recognized for providing quality programs by the National School Age Care Alliance. The licensed capacity has increased over the years and we now use 5 rooms at the Town Center. In addition, enrollment has opened to non-residents for school vacations and “Summer Fun” on a space available basis. During the summer of 2010, we will be temporarily relocating our program to Lane School. We are looking forward to moving back into our newly renovated space in the Town Center North Wing in the fall of 2010.
